Concept & Purpose

1. Why is the organization called "Milk"?

There were/are various reasons to name the group, but after weeks of debate it could only be Milk because:

...the word is slang for semen, the male milk.
...the word is easy to remember and pronounce in Spanish and its definition has positive attributes: nutritious, wholesome, useful and tasy - just like sex.
...the name of Harvey milk, the first openly-homosexual elected official in the USA, who fought for sexual and civil liberties.
...the sexual technique of masturbating without achieving climax, but rather cumming slowing solely for pleasure.

2. How does the organization confront the problems of men's sexual and reproductive health?

Milk approaches "problems" through a pragmatic and effective focus, identifying its audience, collaborating with allies to implement solutions. Our allies have a deep understanding of the challenges facing men - and frequently have know-how and techniques that work quite well. Our purpose is to attract the audience around the themes of sex, sexuality and sexual health.

- In financial terms, we establish and negotiate expenses and income for each project independently prior to launch; if money is not available then we pool time, talent or skill. This permits us to work with transparency toward a shared project goal. Furthermore, this delivers additional benefits in the form of knowledge, contacts and innovations that can help other projects and programs.

- In institutional terms, we seek to form a network of groups and people who share our belief in access to helpful, sex-positive information reaching diverse men in different ways.

3. Who is the "male" that Milk aspires to help?

We reach the man who has sex with men regardless of his role, age, sexual preference, "masculinity" or any other definition or reference. We hope that our attitude about sex, sexuality and sexual health helps any man in his sexual and personal development.

It's important here to decalr that we function in the real world, composed of diverse preferences and lifestyles, not just one ideal type or male archetype. We don't expect to establish one exclusive masculine style but rather motivate self-acceptance and satisfaction (especially in regards to his sex/sexual life) and tolerance of others.

4. There are already so many organizations that are working on medical problems like HIV and AIDS prevention, prostrate cancer or anti-smoking. How is Milk different?

Milk is unique because we have an wider, integrated view of men's sexual health composed of its components - sex, sexuality and sexual health. Beyond the many organizations that are dedicated to many, diverse health challenges, Milk is the only NGO that focuses on their integration. We believe that it's fundamental to encourage health awareness, promote body care and advance sex education to each male. Over the long term, this will produce a long-lasting, beneficial and multiple effect on society.

5. Does Milk provide services to individuals?

No. Besides providing links, news and announcements from similar and affiliated groups and media, Milk doesn't give direct medical or therapeutic attention. We recommend that individuals seek help from any of the nuberous sources we list in our site news, articles, and directory in http://www.milk.com.mx.

6. Is Milk affiliated with some other, international group?

No. Despite presenting diverse opinion, news and results from many international sources and individuals, Milk is a Mexican organization. Individuals fro many countries particpate in the online community of Milkmen. However, Milk México, AC (nor its directors) does not support politicians nor a political party, have a religious preference or affiliation, or pertain to an individual.
