History

The support and results that we've achieved in our short, bouncy history make us proud of our activities & actions, and we look forward to additional work on behalf of men's sexual health.

Timeline

Feb, 2000 - Weekly meetings start among 5 friends; naming debate settles on "Milk" for name (see Frequently Asked Questions for details); decided to host "underwear parties" to raise funds; first party a month later begins monthly parties that continue until Oct, 2003.

Oct, 2001 - Group reorganizes with fewer core members and formally becomes non-governmental organization; weekly strategic planning sessions set path for future activities, conclude Mar, 2002.

Mar, 2002 - Names European representative to help seek institutional support and funding (through Jun, 2003); milk.org.mx is launched as a bilingual site to communicate mission and activities.

Sep, 2002 - Approved by Mexican tax authorities as tax-exempt organization.

Nov, 2002 - Outside advisory board formed to generate ideas and suggest future actions.

Dec, 2002 - Milk.com.mx launched as portal with news, local resources and newsletters.

Nov, 2003 – Relaunch of site with new design, expanded news, articles, music and resources sections.

Jan, 2004 – Internship program launched; first intern arrives from Slovakia, later interns visit from USA and France.

Aug-Dec, 2006 – Adaptation of community health/HIV-prevention program Mpowerment delivered in 6 states, financed by CENSIDA (National Center for AIDS Prevention).

Nov, 2008 – NGO reorganized, re-incorporated; milk.org.mx relaunched, milk.com.mx relaunched as men's-only community (closed beta through Feb, 2010).

May, 2009 — Internship program re-launched.

Nov, 2009 - Team expansion announced; website & blog editorial plus Facebook & Twitter accounts started.
